Lyrics

From the Corner of My Eye

Walking by the shore one day
Beneath a clear and sunny sky
The seagulls soared
And the oat grass swayed
From the corner of my eye
Warm sand sank beneath by feet
The wind sighed a lullaby
When I noticed something strange take place
From the corner of my eye

As I strode along the water’s edge
Warm sand beneath my feet
The water that was approaching me
Began a quick retreat
Then I felt like I was sinking down
Sucked by the swooning tide
When I noticed a wall of wave so high
From the corner of my eye

The creatures caught in the moving grave
Suspended in the sky
Seemed reaching out and calling me
From the corner of my eye
The beach had been just a narrow strip
Till this tidal wave appeared
But now it looked so wide and dry
From the corner of my eye
The birds climbed higher in the sky
Still warm and cloudless blue
Yet I soon lost sight of heaven’s hue
From the corner of my eye
As the wall of water neared
Enraptured and in awe inspired
Of my end I had not feared
Enswirled and circled by the swell
It crashed and crushed me
And here
Wave and sky and consciousness
Compounded in the end
I was left alone
I was left for dead

Walking by the shore one day
Beneath a clear and sunny sky
The seagulls soared
The oat grass swayed
From the corner of my eye
Warm sand sank beneath my feet
The wind sighed a lullaby
When I noticed something strange
Take place
From the corner of my eye
As I strode along the water’s edge
Warm sand beneath my feet
The water that was approaching me
Began a quick retreat
Then I felt like I was sinking down
Sucked by the swooning tide
When I noticed a wall of wave so high
From the corner of my eye
The creatures caught
In this moving grave
Suspended in the sky
Seemed reaching out and calling me
From the corner of my eye
That was the last mistake I made
This wave of circumstance
That swelled into a wall
Was shattered
When I heard you call
